Verb und Nomen gehören fest zusammen. Wort für Wort aus dem Deutschen passt es oft nicht – lerne die Verbindung als Paar.

Achtungunzählbares Nomen in der Mehrzahl

information, advice, news und knowledge sind im Englischen unzählbar: keine Mehrzahl, kein a, das Verb in der Einzahl. news endet auf -s, steht aber mit is.

Achtungwörtlich aus dem Deutschen

Very honoured Ms Clarke, I have 15 years.
So richtig
Dear Ms Clarke, I am 15.

So sagt man es auf Deutsch. Auf Englisch gibt es eine feste Wendung dafür – lerne sie als Ganzes.

Achtungsince und for vertauscht

So nicht
I have lived here since two years.
So richtig
I have lived here for two years.

since steht vor einem Zeitpunkt (since Monday, since 2020). for steht vor einem Zeitraum (for two weeks).

AchtungPräsens statt Present Perfect bei „seit“

I have lived here since 2020.

Seit wann? Im Englischen: Present Perfect. I have lived here since 2020 – nicht I live here since 2020.

AchtungAdjektiv statt Adverb

So nicht
She sings beautiful.

She sings beautifully.

Wie jemand etwas tut: Adverb mit -ly. She sings beautifully. Nach be, look, feel: Adjektiv.

AchtungSatzstellung wie im Deutschen

Englisch: Subjekt, Verb, Objekt – auch wenn der Satz mit einer Zeit beginnt. Yesterday I went home.

Das erste Wort der Aufgabe sagt, was verlangt ist: wiedergeben, untersuchen oder Stellung nehmen. Wer mehr oder anderes schreibt, verliert Punkte.

Prüf das Merkmal: Vergleich mit like oder as ist ein simile, ohne Vergleichswort eine metaphor, gleicher Satzanfang eine anaphora.

Ein Name allein ist keine Analyse. Sag, was das Mittel mit dem Leser oder Publikum macht und wozu.

The first-person narrator tells us about his life.

Der Erzähler ist eine Stimme im Text, nicht der Autor. Frag: Wer sagt ich, und in wessen Kopf sieht der Text?

AchtungBeleg fehlt oder steht allein

The author calls the plan 'a disaster' (l. 12).

Bau das Zitat in deinen Satz ein, setze es in Anführungszeichen und schreib die Zeile dahinter.

AchtungUmgangssprache im formellen Text

Im Kommentar und in der Analyse schreibst du formell: ganze Formen, sachliche Wörter, kein you know und kein gonna.

Eine Zusammenfassung steht im Präsens, in eigenen Worten, ohne Zitate und ohne deine Meinung.

Achtungdespite mit ganzem Satz

despite steht vor einem Nomen oder -ing: despite the rain. although steht vor einem Satz: although it rained.

AchtungTon passt nicht zum Leser

Dear Ms Clarke, … Yours sincerely, Paul Schmidt

Der Ton passt nicht zu der Person, die liest. Einem Freund schreibst du locker, einer fremden Person höflich und ohne Kurzformen.

„It is not on the table.“ → auf dem Tisch

→ nicht auf dem Tisch

Achte auf not, n't und never – ein kurzes Wort dreht die Aussage um.

AchtungNebensache statt Hauptaussage

Hauptaussage = ein Wort, das oft vorkam

Hauptaussage = worum es insgesamt geht

Frag dich: Worum geht es insgesamt? Ein einzelnes bekanntes Wort ist oft nur ein Detail.

AchtungGleiches Wort gehört, anderer Sinn

So nicht
„You can watch our keepers feed the otters.“ → Die Besucher füttern.
So richtig
→ Die Pfleger füttern, die Besucher schauen zu.

Du hast ein Wort aus dem Hörtext wiedererkannt, aber der Satz dort sagt etwas anderes. Hör auf den ganzen Satz, nicht nur auf das Wort.

AchtungPlanänderung überhört

So nicht
„Let's meet at the bus stop. – No, let's meet at the bookshop.“ → Bushaltestelle
So richtig
→ Buchladen: Der Plan hat sich geändert.

Im Gespräch ändert sich der Plan. Es zählt, was am Ende gilt. Hör auf no, but, instead und so now.

AchtungEinschränkung überhört

So nicht
„Normally at ten fifteen. But it's Sunday today …“ → 10:15
So richtig
→ Heute ist Sonntag, also 10:50.

Ein kleines Wort schränkt die Aussage ein: but, only, normally, until, except. Hör, was danach kommt – das gilt.

AchtungAussage der falschen Person zugeordnet

So nicht
Emily: „For me the robot was the difficult part.“ → Jamal fand den Roboter schwer.
So richtig
→ Emily fand den Roboter schwer, Jamal den Bericht.

Das hat jemand gesagt – aber nicht die Person, nach der gefragt ist. Achte beim Hören darauf, wer gerade spricht.

AchtungVorwissen statt Hörtext

Wurde es gesagt? Nur dann.

Das klingt vernünftig, wurde aber nicht gesagt. Es zählt nur, was du hörst.

Dazu kam nichts im Hörtext. → doesn't say

Wrong heißt: Der Hörtext sagt das Gegenteil. Doesn't say heißt: Dazu sagt er nichts. Frag dich, ob du das Gegenteil gehört hast oder gar nichts dazu.
